Thank you to Walkers
Around 40 Hospice supporters came together on 20 May to pay tribute to absent friends and relatives by taking part in a special sponsored walk organised by the Hospice. Everyone who took part did so in memory of a loved one.
This was our second Walk of Thoughts, having held the first event in 2011 which raised a fantastic £3,000 for Hospice care.
The circular two mile walk, led by Hospice Fundraising Manager John Martindale, started from the Heugh Battery on Hartlepool’s historic Headland, along the sea front and back to the start, where walkers enjoyed refreshments and discounted admission into the Battery’s exhibits.
Everyone who joined in the walk received a special commemorative card displaying the names of those to whom they were paying tribute.
Fundraiser, Greg Hildreth said, “Events like this are always special because they are very personal to those who take part. It was moving to speak to people about whom they were remembering and I hope that the walk offered them a time to reflect and think about some happy memories.
I would also like to thank everyone, on behalf of the Hospice for coming along and supporting this event and everything we raise will be used to fund the specialist palliative care services we provide to the local communities of Hartlepool and East Durham. Thanks also to all at the Heugh Battery for their assistance with this event.”
Sponsorship money is still coming in, but we will announce final figures as soon as we have them.
