Moustache Grow raises nearly 4K
LOCAL MEN have raised nearly £4000 for people living with life limiting illnesses by not shaving for whole month.
During April this year 45 men in the Hartlepool and east Durham area grew moustaches as part of Hartlepool and District Hospice’s sponsored Moustachtic Month.
Sponsorship monies have now been collected and total £3810.86 which will go towards patient care costs at the Hartlepool based charity.
Tracy Woodall, Chief Executive of Hartlepool and District Hospice said “This was a really simple and fun event for our male supporters to get involved in and we are very pleased with the total amount raised.
"As a first time event it was a great success and we would like to thank everyone who took part and everyone who contributed to this total by sponsoring people.”
Moustachtic Month was introduced at Hartlepool and District Hospice this year as a new and fun way for male supporters to get involved in fundraising events with a target of £2000 to raise.
Tracy added “It’s fantastic that we were able to exceed our target in the first year and we hope supporters will join us again in future events. All sponsorship money is now being spent on providing our inpatient, outpatient and bereavement support services for local people when and where they need it most.”
It costs £2.8million a year to provide the current level of specialist palliative care services at Hartlepool and District Hospice with only twenty percent of that coming from the NHS.
Prizes, donated by Lewis Barbers on Stockton Road, were awarded to participants John Jobson and Michael Casey for the most creative moustache.
