Physiotherapy
Physiotherapy is one of the comprehensive range of support services available to people using Hartlepool and District Hospice. They aim to improve the quality of life of our patients, their families and carers.
Our physiotherapist is a crucial member of the patient care team that delivers these services. They work with individuals to help improve their limb or overall mobility. They can also give advice and support if people have problems with breathing, tiredness or swollen limbs.
People using our Hospice may benefit from the expertise of our physiotherapist if they have problems with physical functions. These can include problems which are muscular, respiratory, or circulatory in nature or may affect the bones and joints or brain and nervous system.
Our physiotherapist can help by:
- Identifying existing problems. They work with patients to set realistic and achievable goals. The aim of these goals may be to improve, maintain, avoid or prevent further problems
- Providing advice on movement and positioning for comfort and relief of pain
- Assessing for likely future needs
- Assisting people to adapt to a change in functional ability
Physiotherapy is available to every individual who uses the Hospice and referrals may be made directly to the physiotherapist by members of our patient care team. Our physiotherapist is available at the Hospice or can arrange to come to a patient’s home.
