Spiritual support
The team at Hartlepool and District Hospice are concerned with everything that affects the wellbeing of people affected by life limiting illness or the death of a loved one. We provide a comprehensive range of services to support these individuals, including spiritual support.
People in either of these situations often have many questions, thoughts and fears and our spiritual support staff work alongside the rest of the multi disciplinary team, to support patients, their families and carers.
The team
We have a small interfaith team, including a chaplain and a dedicated group of spiritual care volunteers. They also liaise closely with representatives of other faiths and traditions in order to help ensure that appropriate cultural practices are observed.
The chapel
The Hospice has its own non denominational chapel. It is a quiet space which can be used for reflection and prayer and contains writings from a variety of faiths. This chapel is a special place for many in the local community who have taken part in moving services of celebration or remembrance there.
How they fit into the Hospice team
The expertise of our spiritual care team complements those of the rest of our multi disciplinary team. Everyone works together to provide a package of care aimed at maximising the quality of life of the patient whilst also supporting their family and carers.
